DOE Email on your iPhone, Windows Mobile, or Exchange compatible device

Many of you have asked if you can get your DOE email on your cell phone.

Sherif discovered a way to do this and it will work with any phone that has Microsoft Exchange technology for email (the iPhone has it, Windows Mobile phones have it, some Nokia phones have it)...

In the exchange server settings put mail.nycboe.net and use your DOE email username and password.

Contacts, Calendar, Email, and Tasks will all synchronize.

Try it and respond here with your results

i have an iphone. do i use IMAP or POP?

i get a message that says "cannot connect using SSL." so i try without SSL and i get another message that says 'the IMAP server "mail.nycboe.net" is not responding. check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the "incoming mail server" field.'

i used "username" and "central\username" and it doesn't work.

i need a step-by step.

In order to configure the iphone using exchange the phone has to have software ver 2.0 or higher.

From the iPhone go to settings, Mail, Add Account, Choose Microsoft Exchange

Email Address is your full email address including @schools.nyc.gov

For the server use: mail.nycboe.net (make sure not to use http or https this will cause an error in the iphone)

Domain: Central

Username: Email address without @schools.nyc.gov

Email password: is your password that you use for OWA.

Make sure use SSL is on

After you configure it it going to ask you if you want to sync your Address book and Calenders, if you choose yes for either one or both it will erase whats on the iPhone and replace it with whats in your outlook.

Setting up Entourage on your Mac or Outlook on the PC is also very helpful:

In order to get your Entourage email to work on the Mac from home, you must
use the following exchange account settings:

Personal information:
type your username
type your @schools.nyc.gov email address

account information:
account ID: type your email prefix
Domain: leave blank
password: type your password

leave Kerberos blank

Exchange server:
mail.nycboe.net
(if you successfully set this up on VLAN2, before you try it at home, the
server will assign you a server number. Delete this and type
mail.nycboe.net)
place a check on SSL connection
leave the DAV override blank

If you use MobileMe (.mac), Entourage will sync your email and calendars
with the iPhone/mac mail/iCal

This will work with no problems using the admin vlan line. If you are using the instructional Vlan, make sure you don't use the .pac file proxy settings, use the old proxy port 8002 setting.
